The founding fathers knew and expected the Constitution would change over time. That’s why they added the ability to amend it. They weren’t originalists either - they knew the constitution would need to be a living document

.gaia.

The constitution also only originally gave land owning white men the right to vote and only counted slaves at 3/5 of a person. Fuck originalism. Most democracies reinvent or radically change themselves when the moment calls for it. Original =/= best.

I do wish they made it a bit easier to amend, or maybe more accurately I wish they made the system more robust so it couldn’t be degraded by people who just choose not to follow democratic norms. Some mechanism should have stopped trump from getting to where he is now

Constitutions SHOULD be hard to amend so that they don’t fall victim to political whims. It’s not a political document. That structure was very much intentional.

Yeah. It’s not supposed to be easy - it’s supposed to be hard because it can make such big changes. In my opinion, we should keep the Senate, but we should expand the House so that the number of constituents per representative goes back down to a more reasonable number. It was supposed to be 1/30,000. Today, most representatives have over a million constituents. I also think a vote of 90% or some other massive proportion in the House should be able to override the senate.
