.gaia.

The constitution also only originally gave land owning white men the right to vote and only counted slaves at 3/5 of a person. Fuck originalism. Most democracies reinvent or radically change themselves when the moment calls for it. Original =/= best.
Yes, the Senate is undemocratic The founding fathers DESIGNED IT that way. You couldn’t even directly elect your senator until 1913. It’s democracy of the United STATES not United people

There is not a reason to change the Senate that isn’t rooted in Politics. It’s there for a reason. In such a massive system, you need checks on majoritarian power. The Senate and SCOTUS were intended to be those checks on tyranny of the majority.

And every institution is political. Everything is political and acting like something isn’t is naive or dishonest

No. The structure of the senate is a constitutional matter. It’s not rocket science. To change the structure of the senate, you’d need to amend the constitution. The constitution is not a political document. I can’t believe (1) you typed that shit and (2) people upvoted it.

That’s fine, but you’re intentionally pretending that there’s only two options. The politicization of an institution exists on a spectrum. It is not black and white.

An incredibly naive comment.

I’d like to point you to Israel as an example of a democracy with a degraded rule of law and practical lack of check on majoritarian power. The result? Apartheid.

That’s because it’s a settler colonial state to begin with, not because of the way their Knesset it set up. That state should not have existed in the first place lol and should be dismantled entirely.

The constitution is one of the most political documents lmao. The entire practice of American political science bases itself upon it among other things 💀. Neoliberal revisionism lol
