This isn’t 1976 they aren’t projecting themselves as egalitarian anti-imperialists anymore. They’re openly far-right Tsar fetishizers currently attempting ethnic cleansing but shallow contrarians think anti-American automatically means good.

This isn’t even saying the Soviet government didn’t do a lot of awful shit but I at least *understand* why someone would be pro-Soviet. These guys aren’t the lefties anymore man.

There is something revolutionary and anti-imperialist about supporting the right of the Russian speaking peoples of Crimea and Donetsk to sovereignty from the Zionist settler colonial state of Ukraine

I don’t think you know what settler colonialism or anti-imperialism means. Putin has literally claimed Ukraine belongs to Russia because it was in the Russian Empire.

Putin doesn’t want to conquer all of Russia he’s content with sitting on his gains and letting Ukrainian teenage conscripts throw their bodies at Russian machine guns. The point was to protect ethnic Russian minorities in Donetsk and Crimea who have been oppressed by Ukraine for decades

On Tucker Carlson, Putin claimed on video that Ukraine is not an actual nation and that it is a historical part of Russia. Als what a bizarre way to put the war considering hundreds of thousands of Russian people (disproportionately Russian ethnic minorities sent to the front lines) have been killed in this war. One does not attempt to conquer Kyiv if the point is to protect ethnic minorities.

The point of trying to conquer Kiev was to use it as a negotiating chip and knock out Ukraine fast. Similar to how in 1871 the Germans took Paris to end the Franco-German War without the intent to actually keep Paris for good. Putin is predominantly interested in the Russian speaking parts and he doesn’t have the capability to annex the whole country

If Russia was doing this for the minorities, why would they keep bringing up Ukraine trying to join nato as the incitement for their invasion?

There are multiple reasons

Oh you’re very close there. There are multiple reasons. The main one is trying to re-assert Russian hegemony over their former imperial domain, whose populous support an alignment away from Russia. The claimed support for Donetsk Russians or Georgian Ossetians is simply a means to that end. Also I’m not just gonna let you breeze past the open talks of former Russian imperial territory from Putin himself.
