
At its core, it’s supposed to be sending a message that “we are many and are tired of the hold corpos have over us.” The messaging is borne of pragmatism. If you have savings and can walk away from a job for a few days, do so. Not everyone has that safety net and the organizers know this.
I can see what you mean with direct protests. But protests are not the end all, be all. Protests are for amassing numbers, coordinating groups, and showing others they aren’t alone. Nevermind that it’s practicing democratic rights. The point is to build unity. To put pressure on the corpos who buy our government.
I can agree with your sentiment of “if you can’t strike, you don’t have to.” But that’s the pragmatism. Recognizing that more than half of Americans are one flat tire or hospital bill from financial ruin. It’s all about moving people in forward motion, building to a greater show of resistance.
