i mean yeah, but every country has their dictators atp. the DPRK, “US”, Hungary, “israel”, türkiye, Russia, Ukraine, to name a few. objectively speaking, there were worse criminals to grab, they just aren’t sitting on 18% of the global oil supply and have convenient proximity to American refineries

I mean, I agree with you. I think this was fundamentally done due to access to oil. But your original post shows an extreme lack of nuance. Saying that Maduro did nothing wrong when he was a dictator himself.

Ultimately, I don’t think it’s entirely impossible to see the major was a horrible person while also saying that US intervention in Venezuela is not going to lead to the positive lasting benefits that people think it will.
