The same people who call me “privileged” for voting third party are fine with killing brown people overseas for meager benefits at home. I bet that cognitive dissonance is KILLING y’all

At the very least, allow third parties in presidential debates and some kind of parliamentary system with multiple parties. This would be an actual representative democracy. Clearly, pushing dems left isn’t working.

Democrats are incentivized to lose because they get more donation $ when they aren’t in power and have a crisis to act like they’ll help solve.

Is there data to support this or just vibes? Why wouldn’t republicans do the same?

Why would donations matter if they don’t turn into political power. Do you think democrats just like funding commercials for fun. Unless you’re claiming there’s mass campaign finance fraud that no one is catching ?

Trump’s first term. Money poured in for democratic races.

I like how your acting like totally reforming our system is a reasonable ask, just bc you have unpopular political opinions.

I don’t get it. They won that year, didn’t they? And took back 3 seats?

I think there are serious things wrong with American media and how Americans consume information. I don’t think the problem is the lack of presidential debates Jill Stein has been invited to.

Surely Jill Stein won’t light millions of dollars on fire this time! (she has the past 3 times)

If wasting money on elections is this huge issue I would love to talk about third parties.

having 3rd party candidates at the presidential debate

I’m not claiming it’s harmful I’m claiming it’s not a serious issue, nor is it causing the current fascism we’re seeing. If people want to have a debate with Jill stein I don’t care, go for it.

I’d be fine with it but I don’t expect any major political party to go for it. You’ll have to pressure the debate hosts to do it

And why would the major parties be against allowing other options onstage? Makes you wonder!

Bc it would be a waste of time bc they won’t get a single electoral vote and they’ll take up talking time for candidates people are actually interested in.

Is that supposed to be a gotcha? If they could wipe every other party off the face of the earth they would in a heartbeat. That’s like asking one sports team why they don’t want the refs to always rule in their favor

Each entity is just there to maximize its own gain. It doesn’t care about the other entities. The others are hostile to it

I don’t think parties usually run televised debates that’s usually media companies. If a third party candidate was super popular the media companies would want them in the debate bc they would want to maximize viewership.

I mentioned that earlier. If you can pressure the TV companies or host your own debate you’ll be fine. But sometimes, candidates barely even want to show up to 1v1 debates anymore either

Or I guess the cpd also organizes debates but I don’t think they were used much in 2024 and if a third party started gaining momentum then the two big parties would be forced to address them regardless. That would be a bad look if they didn’t. That’s all to say that if third parties want to be in big national debates they should be more popular.

Yeah you’re mostly correct I’m just addressing everyone here bc I feel like everyone is making weird statements about how the incentives would work.
