You verify status when you register to vote and that requires documentation. You don’t just walk up and say “I’m Joe Random and I vote for blah blah”

I don’t think you should be required to physically present said ID in person to turn in a ballot you received by being a valid registered voter. I do think citizenship should be verified before allowing a voter to be successfully registered. Which is already the case
