I love what Mamdani is doing as much as the next guy, but I hope every Leftist knows he's not one of us

probably because actual socialists have been betrayed by social democrats time and time again, including in the collapse of the largest socialist state in the world

No democratic socialism is a philosophy that believes socialism can be achieved through engaging in liberal democracy, it’s not necessarily anti democracy

On the spectrum of "capitalism, or not", demsoc is definitely on the "capitalism" side.

I think you’re conflating Social Democracy with Democratic Socialism. Many such cases. In the states, a social democrat would be like how Bernie or AOC run. A capitalist economy with an emphasis on social welfare programs. Democratic Socialists are Socialists that intend to work within existing democratic processes to achieve socialism, as opposed to the Marxist-Leninist focus on building a vanguard party to mobilize the proletariat outside of elections. Just a difference of strategy, not ends

I’m convinced there’s a solid chunk of leftists that don’t actually want things to change. They just want to loudly complain while feeling righteous superiority.

This really only applies to chronically online leftists though, irl everyone I’ve met has been great.

it's also almost always someone who is not directly being affected by current policies. i'm a trans man in the rural south and you expect me to wait for some magic revolution while i'm being legislated out of existing in public spaces?

What funny tho, all of AOC and Bernie’s (and all Social Democrats or Democratic Socialists) policies that burden the rich and ZERO effect on them. Thank about that for a minute…

Yes… they are… the most ritual cities in China are nicer than most cities in the US, in recent years. They are the world's current superpower too. Do you still think China is a smog ridden third world country? They've basically eliminated poverty and rebuilt their entire country in the last 25 years.

they’re a second world country, as they were aligned with the ussr for most of the cold war. being a first world country is not about having nice cities lmao, say developed if that’s what you mean

Something like 70% of all companies in China are state owned. They are definitely in the process of transitioning to complete communism

the ussr collapsed because the party was infiltrated by revisionist social democrats who exacerbated economic issues with an excessive shift toward market policies and aided the expansion of a private second economy that overtook the socialist economy in many of the SSRs and led them to secede

upvote 6 downvote

Communism eliminates private property (not socialism), which I think you’re getting wrong. China is politically communist and economically mixed used mostly communist policies with socialism mixed in. Furthermore, the ruling party that has supremacy over all, is quite literally called Chinese Communist Party. They use socialism for the short term and communism for long term.

This happened because the socialist economy was failing. There was a very rigid structure that has zero incentives to keep going. The military put a massive strain on the economy forcing the working class to work harder and the lack of political freedom made things worse. The “social democrats” had to revolt due to the worsening conditions. It’s not propaganda, this actually happened.

your arrogance in being completely wrong is astonishing. communism is inherently built on a goal of abolishing the state, abolishing the hierarchal oppression within said state, and transitioning away from capitalism. you’re regurgitating straight US propaganda. If ANYTHING, China is primarily state-capitalism. unless are you also one of the individual who incorrectly believe that Nazi Germany was socialist in the premise of co-opting the term?

and private property is not unique to capitalism, this is such an idiotic argument. communism is focused on the ownership of the MEANS OF PRODUCTION; not private property in its entirety. genuinely just do not discuss this topic until you actually perform the slightest bit of research into what communism actually stands for, and what communists believe.

Cmon bro, I’ll put respect on Lenin where it’s due. I’m not the type to gesture toward MLs resorting to violence as if that invalidates the genuine gains made on behalf on the working class. But you’re simply mistaken. They did not only kill anarchists. You discredit other MLs by deluding yourself.
