Do we think the democrats need to do this? What would force them to capitulate like that? They will have a presidential election hot off the heels of the least popular and furthest right president in a long time, most people will vote for any vaguely leftist shaped object they can put up there

i agree that the next presidential election will be easy for dems. however, why not run on policy that’s popular like universal healthcare? why are democrats always trying to find this moderate compromise with a far right party?

I think that’s just how the political gravity of it works, think it has to do with capitalism yk? They have very rich lobbyists who would rather they keep things moderate and friendly to the business models of our richest corporations which is sort of at odds with things that true progressives want like universal healthcare or getting money out of politics

Well trump wasn’t president during the lead up to the 2024 election like he will be for the lead up to this election, I think that makes a huge difference. 4 years of Biden allowed people to forget about trumps problems and focus on bidens lackluster preformance. Now it is the republicans who are hot off a horrific administration where they failed to do what they promised (no new wars). I think that gives the democratic ticket a lot of power to play with
