I’m gonna push back a little and throw out that people that own a second house probably don’t need government assistance. Mind you if people make above a certain income threshold, SNAP assistance goes away. And a lot of SNAP recipients work more than one job.

I don’t like assault weapons and think they shouldn’t be easily accessible to the public but attaching it to government food benefits makes no sense to me personally

It’s such that if their dependents started a job of their own to help the household, those benefits can go away entirely. Isn’t that a bit fucked? A 16 year old who works and helps their household can actually lose out on SNAP payments? Even if their income is less than what they actually get from SNAP.

Taking people’s assault weapons is an overreach, chances are I’m right there with you on that one.

I think people having guns isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I also think assault weapons are just not needed for the average person. You’re also being intentionally obtuse- If all weapons are made for assault, why aren’t they ALL called assault weapons? You know there are specific qualities that make assault weapons how they are, it’s kinda silly to make that argument

I appreciate that you think holding people accountable is a good thing but you’re failing to realize that with the law you only hold people accountable AFTER they do something terrible. I think there’s an appropriate and nuanced approach that includes reducing the number of dangerous weapons in the hands of dangerous people AND punishing those who commit these heinous acts.

Nobody needs “modern” firearms that can shred a person to pieces in seconds. You create a more dangerous state by making such weapons readily accessible.

I just said the average person doesn’t need a fucking assault weapon I never said anything about disarming the public entirely 💀

Fair but to me it’s the same argument. Where there is a power imbalance, there is oppression. So long as the police and the military have the means to oppress us, we must have the means to check their power

We’ll have to agree to disagree but what you’re saying with regards to the public’s right to have the capacity to fight against oppressors absolutely makes sense and holds ground especially with what is happening in today’s America.

"Assault weapon" is a completely made up term and it's application is entirely arbitrary

They aren't all called assault weapons because "assault weapon" was a term made up by politicians who can't even define what a barrel shroud is but still want to ban it because it sounds military-like

You probably think that "silencers" actually sound like they do in the movies
