It can bring you hope and have mythological elements at the same time. For example even though many aspects of Epicurean physics/metaphysics have not aged well Epicurean ideas about life and death still hold meaning for me. On the other hand it is absolutely possible to find hope in the Abrahamic conceptualization of heaven (for example) while acknowledging the scholarly convention of describing things such as the Genesis creation narrative as Abrahamic mythology. Your beliefs being influenced by myth is not good or bad it is just a consequence of living in a society

It’s odd to insist that the coping mechanisms you prefer are valid while dismissing the coping mechanisms that help millions of other people. You don’t have to share their beliefs to acknowledge that they bring many people genuine comfort during loss.

You’re free to believe religion is false. What you’re not free to do is present that conclusion as an established fact and then criticize people for finding comfort in it. The existence of God, an afterlife, or religious truth claims are philosophical and theological questions that have been debated for thousands of years by some of the brightest minds in history. You may disagree with the answers, but disagreement isn’t proof.

Whether religion is true or false wasn’t the point of my post. My point was that mocking or dismissing beliefs that bring comfort to grieving people is needlessly insensitive. You’re welcome to disagree with religion, but when someone has just lost a loved one, leading with “your source of hope is a lie” isn’t compassion. It’s ideology taking precedence over empathy.

The post is just being honest, everything is made up, maybe god made it up maybe not but it’s not saying not to believe or have your religion it’s just saying it’s a myth, because at the end of the day there is no way to know if god is real or not, if believing in him makes you feel better than do it

It’s really bad faith to argue a post telling people their religion is fake and made up where the person is telling people all religion is “high control mythology” and they should stop believing it is not sending the message to people that they shouldn’t believe in their religion and they’re stupid if they do. Whatever your own stance on religion you can’t pretend OOP was just a neutral live and let live message.

This is a bad argument, some white nationalists are comforted by the belief that POC are lesser or will lose once a certain candidate gets into power because they want things like segregation. Just because someone is comforted by a belief, doesn’t make it invalid to criticism
