Rage baiting as banter between friends is different than rage baiting random people you aren’t close with. This just assumes all form of “rage baiting” is an indicator of evil and not actually nuanced as HUMAN BEHAVIOR itself is nuanced
BTW: Rage baiting is *literally* a behavior displayed by people with high levels of Dark Triad traits Psychopathy, Narcissism, and Machiavellianism It’s a the exact opposite of altruistic, pro-social behavior—outing themselves as mentally ill

This is a good note, but personally I assumed OOP was talking specifically about the malicious-intentioned form between strangers on the internet. I would refer to what you’re talking about as teasing rather than rage baiting, but I agree with what you’re saying

ok but why did you think op meant jokes between friends? i fear that was very obviously not the meaning of the post

I feel like ragebaiting and being a jackass are two different things as well. Even if it’s someone you don’t know, ragebaiting them in response to them being annoying is fine, but if ur randomly approaching someone and being incredibly annoying (like a Jack Doherty), that’s not ragebait that’s just being a jackass

OOP thinks I’m a loser psychopath, it’s good. This is still the better take though.

Like my fiancé does that all the time to me. He’ll make up harmless shit as a joke and as soon as I fall for it, he immediately tells me he was joking. We’re both laughing in the end so it’s fine, I obviously don’t think he’s a psychopath for it. But people who do it with the sole intention of pissing off a stranger and spreading misinfo without ever admitting to it are far different from that

Not really obvious that the post refers to online rage baiting just from reading it; it’s why I even made the post to begin with.

If you have zero media literacy skills yeah

Half the comments on that post aren’t even about online rage baiting, it’s not a media literacy issue as much as it is personal perception

literally what. all you need to take from the post is that actively wanting to rage bait people is a concerning trait. do pick apart everything you see online like this? that must be exhausting.

If it’s a shit take and spreads misinformation/fear mongering then yeah it should probably be picked apart

You might actually be too dumb to breathe, no part of it is misinformation you're just making a nuanced argument on a post that doesn't need it

Labeling every annoying person online as "psychopathic" or "Machiavellian" devalues the clinical severity of those terms. “Dark triad” isn’t a buzzword for yikyak armchair psychologists to throw around

omfg it's not that serious at all. i'm not looking at my bf like "you're a psycho because yikyak told me so" because he likes to get on my nerves. you have clearly never heard of the grain of salt my friend
