
this has been a thing since like star wars or before star wars. fun fact majority of the posters back then were all done by one guy (he died last year rip he was an artist legend) and since all his posters were so popular/famous companies just keep using his style. also having the actors front and center is js companies wanting to get viewers by being like “hey!!! so and so is in this movie!!!”
I agree with OP. The problem isn’t actors being on posters; that’s been a thing since literally the 1920s and 1930s. The problem is that you used to be able to tell what a movie was just by looking at a poster. To use Star Wars as an example, just by looking at the OG poster, you can tell it’s a sci-fantasy with a ‘save the princess’ type story. Contrast with this where it’s just… a desert? People staring off into the distance? You can’t piece together the tone or plot of the movie whatsoever.
