and he’s 51… like what. if he’s had a pattern of this in the past, then people are obviously gonna feel weird about it. the comment is saying the movie is inaccurate because they had an older woman being his love interest and not a younger woman like the ones he would actually date
also the fact that you guys are hung up on him dating a 28 year old grown adult and not concerned at all about the much more problematic casting of sean penn in this film is giving me the impression that some of this moral outrage is superficial and not particularly interested in examining ethics & more wanting to be contrarian than anything
you’re trying to infantilize a 28 year old? 😭 i don’t know what you’re even trying to prove here like i also find it weird but 1) it’s not my business 2) i don’t know them or their relationship 3) it’s not illegal 4) it’s not relevant to talking about the movie itself. the whole point of acting is being another person so i have some capacity to separate art from artist unless they’re like a rapist or murderer. and if you do care about those things, then talk about them instead of Leo gossip 😭
😭😭???? i was responding to you? did you not actually want to talk about this? my “paragraph” (sorry for wanting to give a full reply) was about the discourse not their relationship which i don’t see as my business. ultimately my point was and has been that it shouldn’t impact how you see the movie because it’s entirely irrelevant. i don’t know how you expect to handle discourse if you just invalidate everyone who doesn’t agree with you.
I’m aware of those but what does this have to do with the casting? Not to mention, first of all, some are only allegations, some have been proven. Not at all defending what someone did, but to post a question, how long are you going to hold it against someone? Not that it’s the same, but if someone stole a candy bar from a convenience store 50 years ago and got arrested, it’s suddenly “problematic casting?” No, obviously not. His wife has denied the DV allegations too btw
Tf r u talking about. First of all, PTA isn’t known for plot heavy movies. One battle after another might be actually one of his most plot “intensive” movies tbh, despite the fact that it is a bare bones plot. Next, plot is so irrelevant to a movie’s quality. There are sooooo many amazing movies that barely have a plot. Third, tf issue you have with the plot??? So anti white it’s amazing, commentary on police brutality and government, literally Willa had to rescue herself every time.
“Film industry is so fucking terrible right now“ is a BROADDDDD generalization. Do they release mindless action blockbuster movies with no actual substance simply to rake in cash? Absolutely. Is it also the time of modern cinema where so much is being released that it’s simply impossible to pay attention to everything? Sure. But that also means that if you dig there is the highest amount of quality cinema there has ever been in history at your fingertips.
To continue, this is not up for debate, this is an objective fact. Streaming services have media from the dawn of cinema, available at the click of a button. Just because there’s the highest amount of garbage doesn’t also mean there’s an increase in quality filmmaking. If you are actually invested in film you can easily sift through the garbage.
genuinely, what was the point of the movie? that white revolutionaries fetishize black people even though black revolutionaries typically start most revolutionary movements in America? Is it supposed to be a weak “both sides are bad” point? a simple “white supremacists run the world and they suck”? The role of black women in the film is too minor for any significant “point” to be made about it. PTA got the Oscar because of his seniority in the industry;OBAA was essentially a generic action movie
