If you have family or relatives living in a third world country, are they concerned with AI similar to how Americans are?

I think it affects everyone regardless of whether you live in a first world country or not

It’s a problem for the global working class

i mean, it’s not a problem for the people that have been enslaved making bricks or buliding in dubai, not a problem for the palestinians who are being killed for living, not a problem to the murdered in sudan. it is a problem for people living in capitalist countries who put corporations over citizens, that have to depend on jobs that may not be around in 5 years just so their boss can keep more money.

it’s completely a first world problem until it begins to affect the entire planet after prolonged use of non renewable resources (ik water & energy is renewable but not at the speed we are using it)

The question is asking for CONCERN with AI. I put yes, as many people in the third world doesn’t have reliable internet access and mostly unaware of AI

The same way wars take up excess resources and such. Just bc resources get used in one country doesn’t mean someone doesn’t see an opportunity to take advantage of people who don’t know better (in reference to data centers). I’m not anti-AI, but I am anti putting data centers all over the place to fuck everything up. You get the idea. Earth only has so many resources available for us and when we alr use up our yearly allotted amount 5mo before the end of the year…

Data centers can’t exist in areas without internet, unless they are willing run fiber internet lines, and most third countries do not have the infrastructure or money for that to happen

I’d argue that it’s certainly a problem for the workers in Kenya who were exploited for AI training, for the people in DRC mining cobalt used in computer hardware, and other places with other minerals, and for people who’s water access will be impacted by data centers

AI doesn’t just pop out of the ground. The materials needed to develop, train, and maintain AI come from all across the world, including some extremely exploitative markets. For example, in Malaysia which exports computer chips, migrants work in slavery like conditions. Another example, in Kenya, workers had to train AI by watching horribly violent and psychologically damaging videos, so they could teach AI to recognize them.

This has happened for decades way before AI large language models have existed
