Hey so this person is genuinely just being hateful towards anyone religious (in comments). I have my own trauma with religion but will never use that as an excuse to be bigoted and unwelcoming to other queer people in this community. This is unacceptable.
hot take: queer christians can and do exist, but it is okay and right to point out the harms that religion perpetuates for marginalized groups. it also makes perfect sense for people in our community to be morally opposed to religion based on its effect

you gotta go to therapy. yeah its understandable to not like christians for doing shitty things but this level of vitriolic behavior isn’t doing anything but making you look bad

To be clear to everyone else: I’m atheist. But I have plenty of queer friends who are Christian or believe in other religions. I will always fight people being bigoted towards another group even when I don’t personally belong to it.

it’s interesting seeing everyone make excuses for christianity now that it’s back in vogue

None of this is an excuse for things Christians have done or anyone has for that matter, but you can absolutely be religious or even Christian and not be homophobic. The parts of the Bible that people use to excuse/endorse homophobia were explicitly put there with the intention to cause it in the earlier church.

I don’t know what you mean by back in vogue because it’s been the majority of the USA since its founding 💀 it’s not back by popular demand, it’s still decreasing in belief as usual

i am the direct descendent of an anglican martyr and i got told my entire life i was expected to also die for a god i stopped believing in when i was 12. forgive me for not being sympathetic to our christofascist overlords

I don’t feel like it’s “sane washing” to see people adjusting/altering their religion or perception/interpretation of it as the world evolves. To me it just seems like the natural progression of religion that it will reflect the society it is in, just an added social construct.

their religion is based on a 12 year old having the baby of a 40 year old and then running away 70 miles with her to give birth to the “miracle child.” not to mention all of the paragraphs of how to properly beat your slave

Hey, I’m a direct descendant of women in the Salem witch trials and was told by my mother that I was an abomination to god and told my the church my health was a punishment from god. Trauma doesn’t excuse bigotry. Bad experiences doesn’t make everyone in that group bad.

A group not being a minority doesn’t make it incapable for you to be bigoted against them 💀 it’s not okay to make this community unwelcoming to other queer people because you hate their religion (especially one that varies so much between denominations)

alright so would you say you can be bigoted to men then since they’re not a minority? white people? how far you wanna stretch this

Oh good god. If Christianity is real, Trump is the antichrist. No one is endorsing that shit or what individual people might say or do while claiming to be Christian (although I think Trump is claiming to be Jewish now?) but nothing that’s being done is actually good, governments will try to appeal to the masses under the guise of religion all of the time, doesn’t make it accurate to that religion

Holy fuck. If you are being hateful towards a queer person is this community because they are a man or because they are white, that is still absolutely problematic. If they are doing something actually harmful or oppressive, go for it, but behaving like this when you don’t know anything else about them IS hateful and not okay.

If I go and murder someone and say it’s in your name, that doesn’t mean you actually condone it. That logic is so very flawed 💀 they are doing it for power

On an individual level absolutely. You can’t just hate an individual for whatever characteristic they hold that you decide to hate. Hating any individual without knowing them or them doing something actually harmful and assuming bad things about them off of a characteristic like race, religion, sexuality, etc. is bigoted and wrong.

Wow okay. I can’t tell if you’re rage bating or actually this bigoted. It’s crazy to be in a community like this and argue that it’s okay to just blindly hate a whole group of people because you have had bad experiences with some.
