Look im not pessimistic im highly involved in making my community better and i love to see us give eachother strength but i by no means have to be patriotic to do that. I am against the state and to see all the performative patriotism sucks

you don’t have to feel inspired by them. feel inspired by the idea of standing up to a government that doesn’t care about its people. we aren’t in elementary school anymore, make july 4th about a reflection on a crooked past and a hope for a better future, not a history lesson

Condemning America’s role in history and the world ≠ pessimism. Never once said anything pessimistic about the future. I’m actually extremely optimistic that things get better eventually. Esp compared to when I was a liberal like you. You can’t just put words in my mouth and call me maga for calling out slavery and genocide 😭

whether or not the OP of the quoted post meant to be pessimistic, that’s how it read and that’s what i was replying to. #1 disagreed and said that no one was pessimistic and no one was arguing against having hope for America. My assumption is #1 was OP of the post. I still stand strongly behind my stance that without hope for a better future, the fight becomes worthless. If that makes me a “liberal” (i’m assuming she said it derogatorily) then so be it.
