We should all hate the american government* Im with you but you can still have pride for what your country *should* be and being hyper intolerant like this is actually part of the problem. People can love what america was meant to represent as long as they understand that it isnt where we currently are

Freedom from unfair government. Opportunity. It was made to be a place where people could come to make a better life for themselves and find community. If you cant answer that yourself then you absolutely are virtue signaling by expecting people not to celebrate the 250th. If you are against the government and unaware of what it should be then you are just someone following a crowd you deem morally superior. Activism is not activism without a clear and united end goal.

Im not saying you need to celebrate with them or even like that theyre celebrating but if you dont understand why and think they should be allowed to then you arent in this for the right reasons

That’s never what the US was meant to be. It was meant to give more rights and wealth to the white land owning bourgeois class bc the monarchy was holding them back from importing more slaves and stealing more indigenous land. It still operates with the same goal today. So gen what is there to celebrate about the US. Both in the past and present? In any of its history?

Yes. Which I said. If you dont have pride for what it SHOULD be then you arent actually fighting for it bc you care about it. Im not going to argue with you because I know I wont change your mind but I encourage some reflection on why youre enforcing the beliefs that you are. If you dont love this country then you wouldnt care about making it better.

Literally go to any other country for an extended period, it’ll make you realize how good we have it in America. Study abroad and see the world, you’ll be kissing the ground when you get back in the US

You kind of imply it by disregarding people’s celebration of the 250th, if you spread that kind of hate then you’ll subconsciously grow to not want to change it. If not that then you’ll convince others that there’s no reason we should like America and thus encourage them to stop caring

That’s nice, I only went studying abroad once. If you want to visit more and dislike the US so much then why not move somewhere else? Wouldn’t you be happier in a place you don’t hate?

Well then don’t encourage people to not care, if you want to fight for them you need to show love and care since that’s what truly makes a place thrive. You can feel indifferent about the 4th of July but don’t put others down for it.

“Nothing disappoints me more…” talking bad girl. You won’t encourage people to fight against oppression by attacking people’s love for their country, you’ll only create a greater divide. You can point out specific things but attacking a day for loving where you live is not gonna earn you anything but unnecessary resistance
