I think when most girls say simp they mean someone like Gomez Addams (who is the entire package if we’re being so fr). It’s more a guy who’s absolutely obsessed with his/a girl and would go to the ends of the earth to make her happy- maybe to a point where it’s almost viewed as pathetic. It’s not usually pandering to an entire gender and usually doesn’t involve putting other men down. It’s more based in elevating someone not tearing others down.
look being a pick me is generally associated with throwing other women under the bus for male validation. just because people have called you a pick me in the wrong situation does not mean that is what a pick me is. a simp is when a man shows too much affection for a specific woman and henceforth is called a simp because it’s labeled as “cringe” and “weak” to be showing affection to a woman.
Both can be bad. There are men who will do it to any woman the crosses their path and there are women who will cut down every other woman around them to make themselves look good. If it’s a man complimenting one women & she’s into it, he’s Gomez. If it’s a woman doing it to one man (without putting down others) she’s Mortitia. But that’s not the toxicity simp/pickme is supposed to represent.
I was once called one for enjoying the act of giving a BJ to a committed partner, but if you listen to the people using any word to shame you for some type of everyday life type shit you’re gonna feel insulted and insecure about a lot of shit. Call the fuckers weird/assholes to their face and make them feel weird about their bs & move on.
Jane Austen had some of the best representations of simp/pickme. Collins is a simp. He goes out of his way to compliment women in the sketchiest ways he can while maintaining his propriety (it’s not even purposeful often, it’s just him). Caroline is the pickme she accuses Lizzie of being. She tries to make herself look good to Darcy by siding with him against Lizzie and commenting on her dirty dress (from walking). Neither Collins or Caroline were designed as likeable.
Darcy and Bingly could both be called simps by men seeking to insult men who genuinely like women as people and offer them genuine compliments. And both Lizzy and Jane could be called pickmes by women insulting women who don’t outright hate men (Lizzy never insults Darcy to others beyond saying he’s not amiable and that she didn’t like him because he insulted her. And to him she genuinely, bluntly, tells him she doesn’t like him but keeps a lot of that secret to herself.)
Jane is sweet without a bad word about anyone including Bingly who genuinely hurt her and takes him back after a simple but genuine “I’m sorry.”the worst thing she says about another is that Caroline is pernicious, to Lizzy, but that’s A. Not trying to better herself to a man and B. Caroline was genuinely nasty to people in general and probably did talk badly about her.
