Small schools deserve recognition and money to build their program too. Large conference schools are literally infinite money pits. They whine abt not making it as if they don’t have a high chance of making it each year compared to G5 schools.
hot take: if JMU and Tulane get blown out round one they should get rid of auto bids

You literally go to Indiana. Cignetti was JMU’s old coach and he brought 13 JMU players with him 😭

Small schools shouldn’t be in a top 12 ranking system because we as the college football community collectively feel bad for the g5.

Why even have any other conferences at that point? The whole reason that it works this way is so that teams in smaller conferences get an equal chance to compete. Power 4 teams are always gonna have a monopoly and getting into the cfp is a great way to expand smaller programs

Inclusion of g5 teams into the top 12 is meaningless for those g5 teams to begin with because they will lose in round 1. Oregon is already a 21 favorite against JMU. Ole Miss already beat Tulane 45-10 in the regular season so the rematch will not be any better. The teams that are punished are 10-2 ND and 10-2 Vandy so that g5 teams that will lose anyways will be included.

Small schools should compete for their money like everyone else. This is a total participation trophy style of bullshit. Excluding ND and Vandy just to make way for g5 schools that will lose is such a waste of precious top 12 spots.

This is such a dumb take considering NIL. It only lets the big schools become bigger and be a monopoly over college football. JMU has had two of their coaches in the last 3 years be poached to Indiana (Cignetti) and now Chesney is being bought out by UCLA.

You clearly don't understand how it works. College football is pay to win. Teams with the most funding get the best talent bc they can pay them the most. It's always gonna be the same 10-15 teams in the playoffs if it stays that way

If small schools can’t perform in FBS division 1 football then maybe they should be removed from FBS division 1 and play somewhere else where they may have a chance to win something somewhat significant like maybe division 3 national title. haahahahahahahah

Cignetti literally took JMU players with him to Indiana. It’s not that small schools have a lack of talent, it’s bc they have a lack of recognition and funding. How do you expect small schools to ever make money if you’re penalizing them for being in a weaker conference even if they have better records than other larger schools?

It’s not that they can’t play at that level lol. Again, bigger schools constantly poach and take advantage of smaller schools and take their players and coaches. How can a small school possibly get their program money if they aren’t allowed to play in the CFP. Even if they lose their program still gets $5million

I'm agreeing with you, that's my point. When small schools have talent big schools poach it bc they have more money to pay them

Small schools have to be able to earn their position in the rankings not be entitled because we feel bad for them. JMU and Tulane will lose in a dramatic style and it will be bad recognition not good. Also the money that they get for being in cfp round 1 will be split among every team in the conference so that will not be significant enough funding anything.

How do you suggest a small school “earns” their ranking then? JMU just moved to the SBC three years ago, is undefeated in their conference, and won the championship. You claim JMU has it easy but large schools with bigger programs keep poaching their coaches and players

Winning a conference that is not respected is not impressive enough to be in the literal 12 best teams to compete for the college football national title. Winning the SBC title is impressive for the SBC but not for the national title contention. JMU will be eliminated in round 1 and for what exactly? All at the expense of ND and Vandy that have a legitimate argument to be in the top 12.

Instead of whining about JMU being in it maybe you should question why the ACC sucks? You say that small schools need to “earn“ their way but then you’re discounting them being the champs in their division…

upvote 6 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 3w

Yeah I think the ACC is a total mess and under my criteria they wouldn’t make it for simply not being elite enough with the top of the SEC and B1G. The ACC should expect to compete for a seed in the top 12 like B1G and SEC. Teams that fail to rise to that level of elite should not compete with the elite to earn an elite title like the national title.

It still provides their program with exposure. If you’re this adamant about it then why not make a separate championship? The programs you have mentioned have plenty of resources to help them come back in the CFP again. Small schools don’t make it often bc they don’t have as many resources

You’ve literally been arguing that small schools like JMU don’t deserve recognition while going to Indiana this entire time. JMU’s performance in the FBS is the entire reason why Indiana is even good and why they got Cignetti in the first place.

You say JMU needs to earn their place but then say Cignetti left bc JMU isn’t good? He left bc a bigger program offered him more money that our program couldn’t afford. That’s exactly why smaller schools should be allowed to compete. You’re literally arguing for a monopoly over college football at the expense of small schools.

I don’t know why we are arguing. It’s like we both know your school is automatically losing to Oregon and so placing JMU in the top 12 was a wasted spot anyways but go cheer on your team as they get crushed by Oregon.

I can’t tell if you’re rage baiting or if you’re genuinely this dense. JMU performing well in their “shitty conference” is the entire reason why you got Cignetti in the first place bc we did well and got exposure for our program. Do you not see how it’s hypocritical to argue that small schools don’t deserve to get exposure? JMU getting recognition is the entire reason why Indiana is even good

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon

If JMU is good let’s see who makes it round 2. But you would never make that bet because JMU is automatically losing to Oregon. So 12 spot is just a wasted seed that is going to be Oregon’s warmup round.

The point isn’t even about Oregon anymore omg. The point is how stupid you sound arguing that JMU doesn’t deserve exposure when JMU getting recognition in 2023 is the entire reason why Indiana got Cignetti in the first place. If JMU is so bad then why were 13 of our former players taken to Indiana with Cignetti?
