So, I just learned that JK Rowling sexually harassed a trans woman by taking an upskirt photo and justified it, claiming she was asking for it by wearing a skirt??? Dude. This keeps getting worse. I feel like someone crashed a truck into my childhood.

Not only is she proudly transphobic and racist (never forget what she did to Imane Khelif), but she is also disgustingly misogynistic. I refuse to read her books, but she just gave me another reason to avoid putting them on my shelves.

And ppl will still argue till they’re blue in the face that it’s okay to buy her stuff new because she doesn’t make THAT much from it. She still send every penny toward harmful causes!! It drives me insane.

Like I’m not telling people not to read them used or from the library, but if you’re arguing that it is ethically okay to buy them new, then I assume you just don’t care about trans people. Or the fact that JKR literally quoted Mein Kampf. Or the fact that antisemitism, misogyny, fatphobia, and racism are hard baked into her work, but that’s a whole other can of worms.

lol what? Buying a single book has basically no impact on her, and even less of an impact on trans people.

did you not read the comment? yes she won’t make that much from ONE book but if everyone starts thinking that way soon it’s 100 books. then 500. and she WILL make a lot from that and continue to spew hatred

You’re exactly the type of person I’m talking about. Every cent JKR makes is going toward harmful causes. She says herself what she does with her money and regularly proves how much she truly shovels toward evil legislature. If you’re buying new HP merch, books, and video games, then you are sending money directly to anti trans causes. Oh and you’re supporting a nazi apologist who is friends with Nazis and has quoted Hitler…

Except I’m not buying 100 books, I’m buying a single book. That’s a pretty significant difference

It’s literally impossible to prevent your money from going to bad people under capitalism. No matter what, your money will inevitably flow up to people who you disagree with. This is why people say there is no ethical consumption under capitalism.

“No ethical consumption under capitalism” has to do with things you need. Not things you want enough to kick down at marginalized groups. Don’t weaponize leftist statements in order to justify support of a nazi sympathizer. We know better and we do better. We do our best not to cause harm, not excuse it.

Also, you’re only buying 1 book. But 100 people that think like you are also buying that book. You are causing harm.

Cool, I’m not responsible for those other 100 people. My actions have no effect on them. Me not buying a book I want to read isn’t going to make the do the same thing.

Self-actualization, which includes reading, is a need.

Go argue with someone else about supporting genocidal bitches who quote Hitler. I am not the one. In fact I am done engaging with you and will be blocking you now. It’s been 10 hours and you had to come back to make another stupid argument. Get shitty authors’ books used if you need them sooooo bad when there are thousands of better authors to support out there. 🙄
