So if its okay to assume a black man will abandon his kids just bc he's black, is it also okay for me to assume a man will SA me just bc he's a man? since stereotypes come from somewhere
whats so funny abt black men abandoning their kids?? like why is that such a go to joke for people??

I mean, the bear vs man kinda proved that people already think this.

Men being sexual assaulters is not a stereotype honey. I’m sure the percentage of absent black fathers is higher than male SAers. And nobody said anything about assuming; we were talking about jokes.

Most people agree both are wrong

The problem with this logic is that black fathers abandoning their kids happens at a much much higher rate than sa does. Both of them are bad obviously, but it makes more sense to joke about the fatherlessness than it does the rape. What is it like 50% of black children live without a father? You can’t say 50% of men sa people.

One is okay to say in public and the other isn’t. I think you can guess which is which

Lowkey yeah, and just assume most white guys are racist pedophiles tbh. Better safe than sorry, make sure you’re diligent in finding the exceptions and you’ll end up with a good person

i feel like that is a trauma response. im not the person to unpack that. what im trying to say is if making assumptions based on stereotypes isn't okay for one group it shouldn't be okay for all groups

yes thats exactly what i'm getting at. its just interesting to me how everyone is just so quick to be okay with racist stereotyping but draws the line at gender based stereotypes. even if both of them have truth to them.

like you shouldn't assume a black man will abandon his kids, and women shouldn't assume a man is gonna SA them. even if statistically speaking that would be the correct thing to do

98% of sexual assault and rapes are committed by male perpetrators... source: https://www.humboldt.edu/supporting-survivors/educational-resources/statistics

On average, each of those people have 14 victims though 💀. I’m not saying you shouldn’t be cautious around men, but it’s mostly repeat offenders. Same deal as pedos how it’s like 0.000 whatever % of the population, but the amount of victims they have is disgusting

the point is though a man is more likely to SA than a women. just like how a black man is more likely to abandon his kids. its the same thing you're just nitpicking around the edges bc you don't want to address that both are equally harmful stereotypes.

I never said they’re not equally harmful. I’m just explaining why the one you used an example is equally as nonsensical as the one about black fathers

yes! jokes based on racist / gender based assumptions. if men being sexual assaulters is not a stereotype then neither is absent black fathers? it's statistically proven men are fair more likely to SA.

yes it is 😭 i've literally seen so many men on here saying that women have preconceived notions about them due to the actions of other men.. thus stereotyping them. all a stereotype is a widely held, oversimplified, and often unfair fixed image or generalized belief about a particular category. i would categorize men being more likely to SA a unfair fixed image or generalized belief.

What you're saying though could also be applied to the absent black father thing? It's often black men who are from lower income areas, have poor education, not much family, gang involvement. Also 1 in 5 women have been sexually assaulted or raped. Simply because it does happen so much we even have that statistic. Absent black fathers doesn't nearly compare.

So we’re lying now. You forced me to look it up, and guess what? The statistics actually show that 44% of black fathers are absent, while < 1% of men are SAers.

if you saw that then you had to have seen how 98% of people in prison for SA are men?

Ok I really don’t mean to be rude, but I think you lack a basic understanding of statistics that is necessary to even have these discussions. It doesn’t matter that 98% of people in prison for SA are men. That statistic is irrelevant to the argument both you and the other person are trying to make. The statistic that you should be bringing up in this case is what percentage of the general populous of men are those men in prison for SA.

And after reading your other comments, I’ve honestly come to the conclusion that you don’t even know what point you’re trying to make yourself. Your original point was that both are unfair assumptions, but you have 0 clue which statistics to base that off of. Other people have told you there’s a reason one became a joke and the other is more unfair, but your response has been “but men are more likely to SA than women”. That has literally nothing to do with both your point or other’s points

To concisely sum it up for you, the reason the “absent black father” thing is joked about is because it happens very often. The reason the “men are SAers” thing is frowned upon is because less than 1% of the group being called out is at fault. That’s why one situation is a joke (albeit dark) and the other is a baseless assumption

Unfortunately you’re wrong, the absent black fathers thing does compete. If you look at the stats of both, there’s literally more absent black fathers than there are men who SA. Also, I’ve seen the study that the “1 in 5” statistic came from, and that claim is very misleading. If you look at the study, that was the self reported stat from women. If you read the full study, you’ll find that when asked about a lot of the situations, some women admit that they lied at first or that the situation-

-itself did not actually end up qualifying as SA or rape.

So the actual statistic ended up being way less than 1 in 5 because people weren’t honest when participating in the study or making their reports
