I think it’s such an overwhelmingly important factor and there’s such an ease of access to those kinds of guys that it ends up feeling that way

You’re not being irrational OP. People generally date others who have a similar level of educational attainment and career as they do. Lots of men with high paying jobs want ambitious women. Men and women can both be shallow but that doesn’t mean deeper qualities can’t impact who we choose to date
