I am curious, what do you consider a straight character? Is it any character that isn’t locking lips with their same gender on screen? Is it any character who has said in canon or was stated by their creator to be straight? Is a character straight until proven otherwise? Most characters don’t have a stated sexuality, just shown to be attracted to the opposite gender which means they could just as easily be bisexual or something. ʅ(◞‿◟)ʃ
No. You said you don’t like ships that don’t make sense, shipping is founded on ships that don’t make sense. If you don’t like it then fine, but don’t be like “it’s odd it’s strange I don’t like it” to people who do. Canon doesn’t matter much in the context of fandom, you can like what you like, but as I said, shipping is founded on crackshipping/noncanon pairings/queer ships and fandom is founded on shipping
And why does it really matter? Fictional is fictional and canon doesn’t really matter when it comes to shipping because shipping itself was founded on ships that were not and would never become canon. As I said, found it on the basis of shipping gay ships in Star Trek. Nothing has to make sense in fandom because fandom is fiction and fiction is meant to be fun.
