It's another tool in the toolbox. If you do it well it improves your story, if you do it badly it detracts from it. What constitutes good vs bad depends on what kind of story you want to write

if it makes sense then totally i’ve killed so many of my favorite characters and grief struck so many of my protagonists lol killed quite a few protags as well
