Lowkey I just use whatever default text editor my device has (on my phone I use the Notes app, on my laptop I use Notepad). I’m an engineer by day though, so that might be a tad unhinged

LMFAOOOOO i definitely have used my notes a lot in the process of tryna figure things out im literally everywhere from my notes in my phone to paper and that’s cool what kind of engineer are you ?

Aerospace! I work on satellites. But lowkey I feel that. This is gonna betray even more of my nerdiness, but I use my own discord server to keep myself organized sometimes. I literally dump different files/photos in the different channels 😭

And it’s nice because if I have something really short I want to keep track of, I literally can just message myself in there

No way ! It’s my goal to become a aerospace engineer! I’m going through the Air Force for the free school to do that but I think that is so cool that you are one I look up so much to you 😭 what path did you take to get to where you are now ? Also are you in your discord server alone ?

Oh yeah that’s just my personal server, just me and maybe like one bot. That’s for private thoughts lol

But the Air Force route is very cool! I work with a lot of gov’t/military folks now and look up to y’all a lot myself

both are free, Dabble is made by writers for writers and Obsidian is like crack for notes and organizing (AND it’s free AND it has so much community support/“mods”)

Obsidian looked super interesting but i genuinely have no idea how to use it 😭😭 how did you get over the learning curve?

I watched like a ten minute tutorial on YouTube and made a notes page with all the syntax and stuff, then would reference it when I got confused. I also chose a random theme I liked (iirc it was “minimalist”) instead of a complicated one, and I was using it just fine day 1 def not using it to its fullest potential, but you don’t have to as long as it’s enough for you. reffing stuff in a net rather than in folders is the part I use the most since worlds are complicated and it helps to not repeat

genuinely tho I’ve never encountered another application that lets you be so dynamic with your organization. like I have a table of contents but I can send myself literally ANYWHERE I want as long as I do my headers right (and headers are super easy and intuitive). in love with Obsidian, though Dabble is better for dialogue and writing/comparing drafts

also I use both at the same time since Obsidian lets you link to web urls :>

Ellipsus is free and made by writers for writers :> it can’t beat Obsidian with organization, but holy shit it’s so much better than Docs 😭 it has templates that help walk you through character creation and relationships, and even has a Drafts system that lets you rewrite in an organized way (or you can use it to keep worldbuilding or character info on your sidebar like I do lol). the interface is also very intuitive and free of clutter, highly recommend
