Anyone else feel like their dialogue doesn’t make sense/sounds not smart/basic? Really doubting myself as a writer 🥀

Every character is probably in your voice. That’s pretty normal for a first draft. How the hell would you know what people sound like until you figure out who they are?

honestly, it might sound weird. A lot of people in our generation kind of suck at writing. Some advice: 1. Read. read a lot. find favorite authors and study how they write. 2. read your own work aloud as you edit. sometimes things look right, but sound wrong. 3. try varying length and kinds of sentences.

Most of the time we think our writing is worse than it is. Find someone to discuss your dialogue with. See what they think is going right and what can be improved.

Correct. Reading is the best way to improve your writing, even more than writing will.

So I didn’t say that. Also, you were responding to three entirely different perspectives and assessments. That’s the opposite of generalization. You’re still batting .000%. I recommend you add some books without pictures to your vast library because you have the language competency of a small child.
