The majority of fantasy worlds' Middle Ages last literally forever with no end whatsoever, so you're ahead of the curve

Brandon Sanderson’s dark ages lasted at least several thousand years

For mine there’s the Great Collapse ( 387 BC ) which triggers the Nadir ( 387 BC - 400 AD), then the Low Ages (400 AD - 650 AD), the ACTUAL Middle Ages ( 650AD - 1200 AD) The High Middle Ages ( 1200 - 1450 AD) and the High Ages (1450 - 1560).. this is the problem 😭

This, even in true high fantasy the presence of magic wouldn’t permanently halt tech in the Middle Ages of all times and there would still be political developments if replacements for that tech exist

Who said it was magic that halted tech and not people?

People overwhelmingly do not just “halt tech”, because we want better solutions to our problems. Ex: The period in Christian Europe known as the dark ages largely overlaps with the Umayyad and Abbasid caliphates, the caliphate of cordoba, and the Islamic golden age. Even if one area slows down, other areas keep up the pace or even speed up

At the very least, they don’t do so globally and indefinitely
