I desperately want to write a book. It’s been a goal of mine since I was like 10, but I just can’t seem to do it?? I’ll get an idea, plan everything out, write a few pages, and then lose inspiration completely. I just can’t seem to write.

If you’ve got a problem in your life that doesn’t seem to go away, I’d write a story about that feeling. Then, every time you feel that way, you have an outlet that allows you to productively continue. I know it isn’t a definite way of avoiding your issue, but it’s allowed me to write over 20,000 words on my draft so far.

I have the same problem too my source for lost motivation is that I know what’s going to happen it’s just I don’t have patience building up the story lol

My problem is I have an idea and a few plot points thought out, it’s just connecting everything that’s hard

The answer is dread. You dread letting yourself down, so you’ve conditioned your mind to feel relief from avoiding the failure that your attempt may become. Not the most motivating response, but the most honest one you’ll get. If you can figure out how to manage your dread, then you’ll likely write more.

if inspiration is the only reason you're writing then you're never gonna finish anything. you need to commit to writing even when you aren't inspired, get a daily word count or something that you want to hit, set up a habit of writing exactly that much every day, increasing when you feel especially confident that you can. and don't be afraid to write something bad. you can always go back and edit it later.

A good way to continue is having a person who is constantly on your ass about it, and someone who also edits your work as you go. The plot might sound bulletproof in your head but once you start writing it all falls apart. Having someone to talk to while you write truly helps

Genuinely any time you have an idea or a scene just write it down- write it all down sloppy and completely out of order, eventually you’ll have thousands of words you can muddle through and suddenly it’s not so difficult to tackle because you’ve already don’t a lot of the heavy lifting

What helped for me is taking care of myself mentally like when I’ve been in a bad spot it’s hard to write so whenever you get the block exercise or js sit at some pretty nature spot n ponder/sketch n jot down your ideas

Stop planning so much! When you get everything down too early you give your brain the satisfaction of having “told the story” already. That was at least the case for me. Gl! :)

Real what I do is do a little by little so I don’t burn out immediately

Look into the idea of plotting vs pantsing a novel I cannot plot a novel. I lose interest. I’ve completed several by just going with the flow and having an enforced deadline. Pantsing it. You could have a looser plot as well, or follow a beat sheet, or write interesting scenes out of chronological order and patchwork them together later. Usually I write the midpoint first because it tells me what the beginning is moving towards, & what the end will reflect

When you wanna write, just do it. Even if it’s bad. You can always fix it later. Relying on motivation won’t always get you there.

start by writing small and maybe even posting your pieces. read more. watch more. listen to music and do things that up your creativity and motivation to keep writing.

This is me as well. Honestly try to write at least one little thing a day. Anything is progress. And when you get into a zone, don’t lose it. Keep it going for as long as possible since you don’t know when you’ll get that spark again. I was able to do poetry books, short stories, etc. Practice, know what environment helps you best, and always stay inspired.

Only way to write is to write. Words coming easy? Write til you drop. Words coming hard? Write, grind that shit out. Write 1million words just to get the feel for it and then write your book. Imagine a mf saying “i really wanna release an album- i have lots of ideas and i plan it all out but then after plucking strings on my guitar for a couple minutes I just stop”

Write articles. Write about the topic and about different sections of the topic in depth like 15+ pages and 20 30+ sources , work with people around the topic to get some fresh eyes on your work and revise it with their help. And you can do the whole thing with the plan to turn it into a chapter in your book.

Yep. I’ve had years of intensive training, a group chat with other writers, etc. but it just doesn’t seem to help

YES! Or I change my mind about something and get overwhelmed, or I just feel stupid/cringe writing it (which is a concept I don’t even really believe in?? Like art is art, why do I feel dumb for making it)

I also feel like I never am able to write enough, even when I do college assignments I usually go beyond the amount necessary for them.
