My book is about to slaves in the south- ik historically most of them didn’t speak fluent English but I genuinely don’t want to write accents and do deep research because the entire book is not about them being slaves……is this okay? 🥲(I’m a poc tho)

Don’t do deep research, just google a few letters that freedmen sent after the war and you’ll get the vibe. It doesn’t have to be accurate at all, just a convincing illusion. And it’s your story! If you don’t want accents, don’t do accents. God knows there’s enough of them in that region

Fellow poc I agree with #1 that’s a lot to research and if it’s not the focus of the story not necessary. And I’m sure there’s an argument for varying dialects and such too
