The reality is, I wouldn’t consider this AI writing, I would just say that it’s bad practice. I’ve done all of the above, but it usually just results in GPT reaffirming that I’ve succeeded where I may have not (in the case of your #1) or simply uncreative behavior on my part (in the case of your #2). The more it’s avoided, the better off all of us ought to be.
Okay, I just wanted to be sure because a lot of people are saying AI at all is taking away from authors or something, but if I have an idea that I thought of and asked chat to give me name ideas or check my tone, I didn't see how it was ethically wrong. The idea is an original idea just needed a name or a tone check. Thank you. I feel better.
I'll probably hear it later, but again, everything is original. If I can get a complete list immediately, it saves time from scrolling 500 websites for a baby name that means field of grass. I use filler text for names, which slows me down because I'm still in the middle of searching for it. Example (girlfriend's name)
it’s time consuming, but for names, if you need one that means “grass”, scroll through those thousand baby name sites, pick out the ones you like most, and copy them into a separate folder with the meaning attached. pick one for the character, but if you later dislike it or need another name that means “grass”, you’ve already done the work to curate the ones you like. over time you should develop a little database of your own that you can call back to for basically any name you need
Using it for the names definitely isn’t that big of a deal if you feel it is especially helpful to you and you are at least looking through choices, but I often like my names most when I come up with them entirely by myself. Putting syllables together to make a sound that just clicks, or taking roots of words with meanings relevant to them across irl languages. But those are all just ideas up to your process.
