As one of those people who watches soccer every 4 years, I don’t usually like to to complain about rules but that seems like a weak red card. Covering your mouth? I looked up the history but still seems like a stupid punishment

It’s cuz what happened to vini against benfica where a benfica player covered his mouth so the cameras won’t see him saying something racist towards vini. So they implemented that rule cuz of it. I like the rule

I think it’s only during a confrontation- if you’re talking to a teammate it’s fine

My problem with it is that players cover their mouths to talk all the time. Like who know la if what miggy said was actually red card worthy, he only got sent off because his hand was up to his mouth

No reason to cover his mouth then if it’s not red card worthy

I saw that when I looked up why it’s a rule but still. I think that’s a situation you punish in the moment if that’s what happened specifically or after the fact with suspension/fines. I don’t think the team should be down a man because someone mouthed off under his hand. And maybe the ref did hear some shit and then I get it

I feel there’s no reason to cover your mouth if you’re not being racist

Baseball is my number one sport and covering your mouth when saying something is standard practice. If you punished them you’d have half a team ejected every game

Well with this rule they better not

There is definitely some truth to that

I feel like just for the privacy of players, most celebrities talk with their mouth covered just because they don’t want the media to be in their business but it’s understandable why they’re enforcing it because of what happened

Yes I agree with you said completely but that benfica player ruined it for everyone else
