So the World Cup is a failure for 47 teams? For a team with the history and quality of the US, a deep run is a success. Losing against a non-powerhouse team in the round of 32 at home is a failure. Losing against Spain in the quarters could be seen as a success as it was a deeper run than normal, and the loss came to a top quality team.

Or for a team like Cape Verde, this World Cup was already a success no matter how/when they lose.

I would say losing to Belgium in the Ro16 would be a success too because Belgium are on paper the better team
