I’m American but I think the whole “we’d win the World Cup if our best athletes played soccer” is such cope. We probably have more kids in organized youth soccer than any other country. The talent development is just miles worse than the powerhouses

Yeah because the second a kid shows that he’s talented at kicking a ball he’s pulled to be a placekicker or punter in football, add to that the fact that football is just more popular than soccer here

The talent development here isn’t available. Parents have to pay like crazy just for a “good” academy team. It’s literally like AAU, but soccer is jumping straight to paying instead of building a good system first.

There’s like 3-4 dedicated spots for place kickers/punters on your average HS team, and 15-20 soccer players. Even if we subtract some of the “best kickers” (which I think it’s arguable whether or not that’s actually conducive to being good at soccer) the talent pool should still be multiple times larger than countries like France or England which regularly field way better teams than us
