The entire store knows why you’re wandering the tools section ten minutes before close, that’s why we turned off the automatic doors and locked them and why there’s only one open exit after close

DeWalt didn’t have outdoor power tools at the store I worked at so it was very obvious when someone with their bright yellow boxes went to the other side of the store to make a break for it through the garden center.

Unless you were someone’s grandma around Christmas it was very obvious you were running a gift card scam is you had more than three of those Visa gift cards in your hand. Bonus points if you told me to load the “max amounts” then got pissy when I only gave you the cards as they went through.

Getting upset with a cashier because they asked for id to use a corporate account to “buy” is a huge red flag. Also again trying to intimidate a cashier following protocol is a dead giveaway you’re doing something illegal

Most of the time we asked people to leave their carts inside the fenced in area before looking at the plants on the sidewalk/curb area because we didn’t want to listen to the security system go off every time you walked near them but it was also because we knew that flat bed cart full of tools and light fixtures wasn’t coming back to the register if we didn’t.

We all knew when you tore a hole in a bag of soil in an attempt to get a discount, that’s why there was tape behind the registers.

Oh and all the true pros knew the process by heart, some better than the cashiers. The real ones would never yell at an employee even if they were in a rush.
