I feel like my job is slowly becoming my life, I just go back and forth from work and home, only think about when my next shift is, and plan around my paychecks and days off

To the people who say “welcome to being an adult”, do you not feel unsettled by this feeling at all? Why is it just widely accepted you have to give up your dreams and become defeatist to just survive? Isnt it scary we are just hungry enough to participate in this and just tired enough to not do anything about it. People died for the 8 hour workday and since then our pay hasn’t kept up with our productivity.

Yeah and I’m not even in the career I planned for myself, I’m just a retail employee for an understaffed store trying to keep things from falling apart. My boss has said that she’ll give me some more breathing room soon, and has even talked about promoting me so I don’t need to worry about my paycheck as much. Even as the manager she feels like I think about work too much
