I was looking at a sample of a high entropy diboride, which was in a powder form, and I’m guessing this is some other piece of dust that got in there. The spikey stuff would be the piece of dust and the powder is clumped onto it

How do you discern dust from something like a polymorph? This is super interesting man please keep sharing!

I’m not really sure actually, this is the first time I’ve seen dust or anything that looks like this. We didn’t spend too long looking at it either because we were interested in other things. We could have ran EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy) on it to determine what elements are present to see if it contained reagents we made the sample with

We take a lot of pictures but this is the only one I have on my phone. I’m an undergrad doing research at my university. It’s an inorganic chemistry lab and we mostly work with diborides.
