actually it was MLK that said riots are the language of the unheard- he believed people do this out of pain and frustration when their government neglects them

But peacefully! The reason the civil rights movement is so powerful is that it was peaceful. They protested through marches, and standing their ground in a nonviolent way so that the only ones actually causing violence was the police. It was protesting but not hating. People forget that MLK was a pastor and wanted to spread love, not light things on fire.

the civil rights act was only passed because of the mass riots that happened after the fbi assassinated MLK for protesting peacefully
