How does one reconcile the current un-sustainability of the world’s large population with sensible climate change policy to conserve resources and promote global health?

The large population is not the problem

Most population related strains can be solved quite handily with proper management, technology, and efficiency. I am not denying that overpopulation is a real phenomenon that can happen, but consider how much worse overpopulation issues were in the 1800s, when the world population was far far smaller. Overpopulation was a localized but very common crisis in the 1800s because they were very inefficient and didn’t have modern food technology.

1. You get rid of those hoarding wealth and other resources. 2. You target the consumerist mindset most Westerners (esp us Americans) have bought into. 3. You build a system that redistributes resources based on need not on desires.

It isn’t but the efforts to sustain it is, you either sacrifice resources or you sacrifice convenience and comfort

The average person doesn’t have to sacrifice creature comforts for the global population to be well off. The global ultra rich need to be relieved of their luxuries.

it’s not a false dichotomy, especially as the food system is increasingly strained. y’all need to be comfortable talking about human population growth, because 1) it is not sustainable under the current mode of production, and 2) resembles other species boom-bust cycles in terms of population. if human behavior does not change, billions will die

that means the average person needs to be more amenable to eating less meat. animal agriculture is the primary threat to the food system. we cannot grow crops without clean water, good soil, and when the climate is too hot to sustain them. currently 80% of agricultural lands are devoted solely to animal agriculture, where animal products comprise around 30% of our caloric intake. the answer is pretty clear without weirdo population controls. y’all just don’t want to eat less meat
