Today’s topic, rising healthcare costs

We already put more funds into our healthcare system that most other developed countries. The issue is that in a for-profit system, the incentive is to make costs as high as possible so long as people will pay it. We are not paying for the base price of the procedure or medication, we are paying for all the shareholder profits.

Why shouldn’t everyone have the best treatments available at all points in time when we are the richest country in the world? Poorer countries already do that

healthcare is expensive in america because its culturally treated like a market and people want the best treatment available at all points in time

Could not be more wrong. The issue isn’t that people only want healthcare that fits their unrealistically high standards, people just want to be able to see a fucking doctor when they’re sick and many Americans can’t afford to do that at all so they just thug it out and hope it isn’t serious

Furthermore, a for-profit system means that health care will not operate in areas that are not profitable. This means that rural areas do not receive sufficient health care access, and there is not incentive to create an overall more healthy population.

How sick? And how able, at what cost? Medical debt is one of, if not the largest category of debt held by Americans on average
