Sorry but we need to block all travel from countries with active nipah virus until the outbreak is controlled. We must absolutely be draconian against threats like this.

Ehhh Nipah virus is a zoonotic disease but it’s not as easily propagated or spread like COVID or influenza. Kind of asinine to say we need draconian measures.

It spreads by bodily fluids as well

Also it’s fatality rate is too high to sustain itself and spread. Plague Inc. taught me this

Exactly I understand people freaking out after COVID but this is just hysteria to the max. The current policies being implemented by neighboring countries should be more than sufficient

Idk. We should at the very least implement similar travel measures to what we did in 2014 during the ebola outbreak. Better to be safe than sorry

Well those were hardly draconian measures dude.

And besides the high mortality rate makes it difficult to spread anyways. Basic screening in neighboring countries to India is more than enough.

Worked very well with past outbreaks

Idk. I don’t trust our own country to handle these things well let alone other ones. I meant draconian hyperbolically and rhetorically but I mean if it ever got to a point where this or any other crazy disease is ravaging a place then, yeah actually draconian.

I just think you’re too uneducated then about public health and disease control. The current administration is willfully incompetent yes, but we’ve had multiple Nipah outbreaks in the past that don’t develop into pandemics because of its traits.

Now past Nipah outbreaks have happened in Kerala which has a much better healthcare system than West Bengal but I think it’ll be managed nonetheless

Well, yeah. I’m not a public health official and public health is not my area of expertise. This is just how I feel about the issue as of now. I think we’ve already let too many diseases get into our country which we could have tried harder to prevent from getting here and now as diseases increasingly crop up we should be on alert

What do you even mean let too many diseases into the country. 💀

Covid, AIDS, Zika, certain bird flus are top of mind. Sure the science behind ways to prevent transmission of diseases is always evolving but travel restrictions and screening at airports and ports have always existed and we failed to prevent them from entering the country

Zika and bird flu being immensely more difficult bc it involves mosquitos and birds respectively

Well, HIV, obvi, but it’s written as HIV/AIDS usually anyways
