people kept consolidating to grow and stay competitive till there was only a few big fish left. kind of natural progression

if a store doesn’t take my card I wont shop there, simple as
and if it becomes widespread I’ll go back to cash and checks

I think the real chaos will be when it’s not “oh we don’t take Mastercard” (which is already crazy) but “oh we don’t take the Costco Rewards Mastercard, didn’t you see the sign in the front?”

Also idk any store that takes checks nowadays because of the risk that they’ll bounce

yeah checks would be a stretch but im prepared if need be lol
im more concerned that instead of “we don’t take Costco mastercard” it’ll be “we ONLY take Costco mastercard”. basically forcing everyone to sign up for thirty different cards

So if you use an Amex Corporate card for work like me, and someone we do business with does this, now our WHOLE company has to get in bed with Visa or Master. It’s anti-competitive af and its grounds for a big lawsuit

That would honestly be crazy even if Costco themselves did that. Basically closing off their customer base to only the people who want and can get approved for another card 😭

Do you not already run into this? Not everyone accepts Amex

It’s not a question of us just going to another business either, we’re in aviation and only certain companies make what we need

But yeah I think I’d see the card issuers getting really pissed about this. I doubt they signed up for this
