Seriously, how can there be people who support mandatory online ID verification? There is no circumstance where giving our personal information to companies who’ll serve it on a silver platter to criminals is in any way a good idea.

My mom supports it because she says my sister and I were addicted to social media as kids but I know she knows better than to support this 😭

Which companies/places have that? So far I’ve only seen ones that are optional or is this still in the process?

Discord wants to roll it out for all users who want to access adult content or view unsolicited DMs, unless their algorithm determines that you’re likely over 18 (e.g. account age, usage habits). Even in areas that don’t legally require it yet

It’s still in process in the US but it’s far worse abroad, especially in the UK. In the US, several notable companies have already implemented age verification: Google (and by extension Youtube), TikTok, Roblox, and Discord are the most high-profile cases that I know of off the top of my head.

Their way of protecting kids online is to make a database with the names, faces, and addresses of all kids online.
