There’s a reason Martin Luther King gets all the credit when Malcolm X’s movement is what actually got shit done. They want you to think peaceful protest works, but it’s just a performance to make people feel things might change, and shut them up.

Lest us not forget that because Martin Luther King was the most palpable to white folks, with his higher education and strong Christianity, he of course is remembered more. He wasn’t exactly pro-peaceful protest either, we was just a pacifist, and when asked about he felt about aggressive means of defiance, he was understanding of why people behaved that way and understood it as a valid form of protest. He was just, personally, not encouraging that way of doing things, especially bc

Peaceful protest does create change though, primarily through peaceful disruption. A primary tool used by MLK was economic disruption through boycotts. This was the same strategy used by boycotting apartheid South Africa, and mass refusal to pay taxes by Indian independence activists.

Many black people didn’t want to risk their lives or well being by being that way. Because they had to go home at the end of it. Malcom X and the Black Panthers and Black Revolutionaries were willing to die for the cause, but that doesn’t sit well with white people.

MLK was not the only force resulting in desegregation, like our school system often claims. But it is also incorrect to deny his very real role.
