So remind me which party is sending people to concentration camps, medically murdering women, and defying court orders to provide SNAP benefits again??? Democrats are ass but it’s a fundamentally untrue and privileged take to act like both sides are equally bad here. This IS left vs right.
you’re talking about democratic voters and democratic politicians like they are the same. that’s very much not the case. i’m talking about democratic politicians. the democratic party as a whole is the sadistic yang to the gop’s yin in the eternal performance they put on to keep us outraged and under control of our emotions that they inflict. if the democratic party actually cared about us they would have put a stop to this, but that would kill the cycle and take away their strongest leverage.
OP’s take (one that I agree with) usually emerges from a left-leaning perspective, operating on the premise that the theatre of American politics exist to assuage the poors of any potential ambitions they may have to organize. Right-wing politicians are ofc our enemies, but that doesn’t mean we should accept the democrats as our allies. They actively work to soften working class popular support and distract from any attempts to enact real substantive change.
To defend the Dems is tempting, as our only ostensibly anti-cruelty party, but ultimately counterproductive when it comes to working class coalition building. By aligning with the marginally less evil part, we risk alienating our working class peers that have been duped by the right by revealing that we, too, have been duped by our supposed “leftist” representatives.
I personally believe the unfortunate reality we live in is one where the American uniparty has the proles of its nation convinced that buying into their political theater is our only means of prompting systemic change. In truth, we have seen the greatest rises in human living conditions in response to the efforts of organized labor. Our ancestors weren’t able to vote better material conditions into existence; the 5 day week didn’t emerge at the ballot box, but at the picket line.
I guess I just doubt that the big 2 parties care much for change in the direction of improving the lives of their constituents, to be honest. Both of them inevitably advocate for whatever political/corporate interest group is able to pay the most, and wealthy institutions tend to have very different goals and values than the average American. You could be right that our only option is to buy into the shitty system we currently find ourselves in, but I’m not especially confident in its future atp
this is incredibly ironic considering my whole point is that the democrats in power are the lesser of two evils ergo still evil. you are fundamentally mistaken if you think there's no choice but to play into their game. that's what they want you to think so you are able to be controlled. the "lesser of 2 evils" situation is created on purpose to make you think you have no choice, but you very much do and you're so close to understanding. voting harder for the democrats will not fix anything.
the republicans are attacking everyone's rights under false pretenses to stoke up their base and the democrats are lying about caring so they can stoke up their base. let go of the lie that the democrats are good. the fact that they are better than the gop is being used to distract you. open your eyes!!!
you're also putting connotation on my position that very much is not there. i don't think we need to "rise up" in fact, "rising up" is apart of the problem. lashing out at the system only makes it stronger because it thrives off of our frustration. what we need to do is put down the tik tok, threads, twitter, instagram, etc. and just breathe. we must find our connections to ourselves and become sovereign again. become ungovernable. lead by example. do you want to see more fighting? i doubt it.
this turmoil will go on forever unless you and the rest of the dems and republicans stop contributing to it. you are collectively responsible for the continuation of all this devastation. trump wouldn't be in office you didn't yell at his base so much. the fact that he has support is the direct result of its opposition. in a way, newton's third law of motion also applies socially.
