Even in America I've seen it get bad quickly, people went from not really talking about Indian people to making up slurs for them and saying horrific stuff about them. The worst i heard growing up was the telephone scam stereotypes.

I hate pointing at stereotypes. But Indian call center scams are prolific in a country rapidly becoming more educated, more technologically adept, and has 1 Billion people. I have dealt with scammers with Hindi accents when I worked at a call center doing unemployment debit cards. That’s not something intrinsic to Indian people. That’s statistical probability at play.

The catch with racism towards Indians is that it is bipartisan racism. And I am saying this as a leftwinger. But social issues within Indian make it where Western “progressives” see it as ok to poke fun at a society that lags behind on women’s issues and basic sanitation.

I don’t say that previous comment as an excuse for it. I’m saying there are a ton of things at play to culminate into present day racism towards the Indian subcontinent that doesn’t seem to get the same pushback as garden variety racism.

Then in the 2020s as anti immigration and racism started going mainstream on the internet again we became easy targets especially bc this coincided with impoverished areas in India where unhygienic food and poverty porn went viral. Trends like bitch lasagna rlly didn’t help either and the jeet slur escaped 4chan and became mainstream Because of our brown skin and “odd culture”. What I see on the internet against us now is more than just racism it’s broad dehumanization. (Not ai)

America put japanese american in camps in ww2, enslaved black folk etc. the xenophobia and racism target really just shifts to a non white target periodically in america. Uber fucked up

Genuinely gross how people talk about indians. It's gotten to where I've seen people upset about participation in vaguely indian things. Won't be surprised if yoga becomes stigmatized or something in the near future solely by association.
