they had a point tho, making a joke out of protests lowkey just makes the entire thing they're protesting for look unserious. "hello kitty says acab" core

It’s about attracting attention to raise awareness. Inflatable frogs and stuff seems silly but it hides your identity and also grabs attention. And if law enforcement tries to fuck with you, they’ll look ridiculous

imagine your dad is shot in the head by ICE, or your entire family is deported and the only thing people do is go to a protest and play dance dance revolution. there's attention on it already, and ICE doesn't CARE about looking ridiculous. y'all just make it look like more of a joke than people already think it is.

all yall do is "attract attention to raise awareness" but what are you doing that is actually having an impact? people are being shot in the streets and y'alls response is to buy more shit that you don't need and won't use so you can get a camera on you. when do you start throwing bricks at ice agents?

“No Kings” is more generic and not only focused on ICE. It’s about all of the things Trump is doing. Some local law enforcement officers are still somewhat concerned about looking like they’re overreacting to an inflatable animal

I wish ICE would try something in Philly. We’d probably make Minneapolis look like a 5 year old’s birthday

i promise you no law enforcement agent actually cares. y'all could instead do productive things instead of "eric cartman says trump is bad"

but you haven't even done that with the police. you won't actually do anything other than wear your stitch onesie and make fandom signs.

Yeah so I haven’t done any of that personally. I just think it’s counterproductive to hate on the people that do. Idrc what people do as long as it attracts attention and shows strength in numbers. There is a lot more targeted and disruptive action that can be done towards ICE and specific agencies

yeah white people typically don't take anything serious so idk why i expected this to be different. there's a time and place for jokes and this isn't it. but whatever, it'll just be like 2020 again where nothing actually gets done because y'all just sit there and take it

I didn’t really see it as very responsive to what I said. No Kings is not a targeted protest towards a specific agency. It’s towards the entire federal government. There are myriad other protests targeted at ICE, USBP, local police, supporters of Israel. That’s when it’s far more crucial to have a unified message. Policing broad protests is pointless, especially when people like this person haven’t done much themselves, when refining the message at targeted protests is much more effective

Even 2020 was targeted towards specific issues, usually around law enforcement. This is about the entire federal government. Defying court orders, creating slush funds, using emergency powers for everything, having a cabinet full of pedos, politicizing the Fed and DOJ, detaining citizens, detaining children, insider trading, corruption, genocide, tax cuts for the wealthy, not extending ACA subsidies, ending USAID. You’re naturally going to have all sorts of people at a broad protest…

what changes actually came from "hello kitty says acab"-esque things in 2020? y'all made it into a trend and y'all are making this into one too. what the fuck ever girl

…so what’s the point in policing the message when there are so many issues to discuss? At the end of the day it doesn’t matter if someone’s wearing a dinosaur suit. I personally haven’t heard about dance dance revolution, idk what that’s about 💀 but if someone wears something silly, I don’t think it’ll materially change the outcome from the government. But for the media, it makes any sort of demonization much harder. How are you supposed to label someone as a “leftist commie militant”…

people are being shot in the street and once again the only thing liberals will do is put on a costume so their tiktoks about the protest they went to gets views.

they're still demonizing it tho. they're still killing people. the government still has not been held accountable. but whatever, go dance to kendrick lamar in your inflatable costume in the streets. im glad yall have the privelage to not take this seriously.

No Kings is not supposed to bring about change by itself. It only voices collective dissent and reminds the public that a significant number of people disagree with the government’s actions. It’s discrete from a protest specifically against ICE, for example. ICE protests have specific demands: things like “Free Kilmar Abrego Garcia”, “Free Liam Ramos”, or more generally, “ICE OUT”, emphasis on specific parts of the bill of rights, etc. Those protests have specific calls to action and demands

ohhhh so it's just y'all in the streets so you can say you did something. it's wayyy past the time to show people that people don't like the government. do they give you a cookie on the way home? for being such a good leftist?

No Kings is like the big plane that brings everyone to a major hub. The point is to grab attention and interest people who don’t normally protest. It’s not getting them to their final destination though. It’s a vehicle for that. They get to their final destination on a smaller plane. The idea is that they will eventually become more active and participate in targeted protests, actions, and increase their community involvement at food banks, shelters, and other places where aid is provided

If people want to use it to check something off their bucket list, that’s on them. That’s not the objective. They can misuse any protest to give themselves a pat on the back.

Yeah so I explicitly explained how the idea is to bring people in who don’t usually protest, and direct them towards things that aren’t as performative and have more specific demands.

all of y'all are. just showing up with face paint to say "my favorite character says no to fascism!" and going home to say you did something. silly costumes and signs won't work, but keep going ig. people are still dying and shit, but it's amazing to see a large group of people with the privelage to be able to nothing. thank you, truly, for enlightening me on the performative leftist.

What exactly do you propose that isn’t performative?

take it seriously. get out of the costumes, take it to your representatives. if they don't listen, make them. go to town halls, city halls, wherever your representatives hold meetings and be loud about your opinion. make them take you seriously. buy a gun, learn to use it. actually educate people on the pedophiles y'all are against, print out the files and stick them everywhere. anything but putting on an inflatable dinosaur costume so the people in charge have more excuses to ignore you.

fundraise for community support, protect the people being targetted (such as immigrants), stop giving these corporations more money. vote! go vote in the midterms! spread that, make sure everyone is voting. vote in more suitable candidates at the local and state levels.

So town halls and targeted protests (e.g. outside ICE facilities) where you meet the entity you have demands for is what I was talking about as the second stage. Funnel people towards more targeted activism

instead of making funny signs, print out or write out the evidence that supports what you're saying. MAKE them listen. they will not listen to unserious people. your representatives need your support, and if they don't have your interests in mind make it clear to them they don't. stop meme-fying this, it's a huge reason trump and kirk ever got a platform. take this seriously, because if you don't why the hell would anyone else?

you can never move on to the second stage if you're stuck in the first. organize that instead of this.
