I think it’s *less* of an issue when the specified race is white because white people are not an oppressed class, but the narrative people try to push with this stuff is really shitty. Pointing out racial violence against black people by white people is one thing, but people keep posting stories like this while pushing the conclusion that “ALL white people are dangerous murderers”

I think it’s *also* a problem when republicans mass post shit about every time an illegal immigrant does a crime. In that case it is more dangerous because illegal immigrants are an oppressed class, but it’s a similar tactic. Mass post a select number of crimes that fit the exact racial combination desired in order to promote the idea that everyone of that ethnicity is evil.

These clickbait accounts are obviously wise to the fact that attaching race to certain crimes leads to more engagement. “White women torture young black girl to death” will obviously get more attention on certain platforms than just “women torture girl to death.” Same as how “black teenagers steal old white lady’s car” or “Asian woman causes 20 car pileup” would garner more attention than more generic headlines. It’s race bait slop across the board

White people are out here uniquely hunting black people, when that just isn’t true and not born out in the statistics. You see the same warped world view from outlets that only ever show black criminals and ignore white ones. The viewers end up with warped world views that lead to racialized hatred and eventually real violence.

The Katrina case is actually too my point. That area of New Orleans is heavily segregated and after the storms there was racialized reporting that uniquely black gangs were out looting. That combined with anecdotes like an instance of a white man getting carjacked by a black man lead to the formation of the white militia and barricades. It’s exactly these kinds of tragedies I’d like to prevent.

But for example, in the town i live in, a teenager recently got shot by a group of other teenagers over drugs. Everyone here is freaking out over the fact that one of them was black, even though a white kid was involved and was the one to plan the whole thing. no one is freaking out over the white kid’s race, they’re freaking out over the fact that one of them was black. Obviously that makes no sense, but its happening because of stereotypes and moral panics pushed by the media

Well, with respect to this case specifically, I think the bigger issue is the dead child and the horrific act those three women seemingly committed. And if it was racially motivated, that needs to be called out and ridiculed directly. I’m more speaking towards a larger media trend and landscape of polarization and group think.

Because the headline is making the race out to be a critical part of the case when it is not at all obvious to me it is. People will use this article headline to reinforce tribal beliefs, not taking into account that these kinds of atrocities happen across all communities. Why is adding race to the headline important here?

You can find dozens of similar cases where the kid is also white. Arabella McCormack for example. For this one, I think the more likely case was that they hated the poor girl because she reminded them of the one woman’s ex.
