A few reasons: Steyer has positioned himself as not only a strong progressive but also as the progressive who is in the best position to actually advance a Dem to the general. There are so many Dem candidates in the race it’s a real possibility 2 Republican candidates are gonna advance. The other Dem currently surging is Beccera who is another Newsom and the only other progressive in position to challenge him is Steyer.
