Yeah but even then same sex marriage isn’t legal in Israel, they will recognize gay marriages performed elsewhere, but if you are gay in Israel you cannot get married there

its a bit complicated. same sex marriage isn’t illegal in israel, but marriages aren’t handled through the government, they’re handled through religious courts. there are 15 different religious court systems for different religions in israel, and they tend to be dominated by conservative (religiously and politically) people. none of the courts are willing to perform same sex marriage and the government can’t force them to

the israeli high court (basically supreme court, secular institution and generally more left-leaning) has made it as easy as they can for same sex marriages to be legally recognized in israel. basically you fill out a form to be legally married in Utah (can do this all online and Utah is one of the only places in the world that has a clear legal framework for online marriage), send the form to the israeli government, and then have whatever ceremony and party you want in israel
